Design Engineer- Electrical & Plumbing Systems

POSITION SUMMARY:
Develops and specifies boat systems wiring and plumbing to meet requirements of product, and to be compliant with NMMA/ABYC recommended practices for marine electrical systems. Provides technical support, direction and troubleshooting of these systems to production.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with Product Managers to develop harnesses to satisfy functionality of product and comply with regulatory requirements with approval from Engineering Manager
  • Works with outside vendors to produce electric/electrical products that will integrate into wiring assemblies produced in-house
  • Creates harness build boards, assembly instructions and drawings
  • Creates patterns, jigs, or fixtures to facilitate manufacture of wiring, harnesses, and hose assemblies
  • Develops bill of materials; keeps bills of materials updated
  • Works in a manufacturing engineering role to support productions, refine processes, improve bill of material accuracy, train personnel, troubleshoot issues, etc.
  • Assists in researching manufacturing methods/techniques to optimize manufacturing processes and procedures
  • Assists in performing defect reduction investigations making recommendations for equipment modifications, testing and qualifications
  • Works closely with Product Managers to ensure all product and system requirements are considered from the initial product conception to the finished result
  • Create and maintain wiring schematics and all supporting documentation using Auto-CAD electrical software or equivalent. Review and approve Standard Work Instructions created by Process Engineering Techs
  • Evaluate and analyze new concepts or applications for manufacturing processes and present relevant data to management for further study
  • Act as liaison between Production and Engineering
  • Understands how the end-product is used by the consumer, and the role electrical systems play in the finished product
  • Work on Kaizen and Cost Down projects to improve production and reduce cost

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's or Associates degree in Engineering or related field. Certain combinations of formal education and work experience could be adequate
  • Must have a strong knowledge of 12V electrical systems, use established industry practices in design and implementation of such systems
  • Must possess strong mechanical aptitude, ability to use basic measuring tools, and hands-on capabilities to work on projects without supervision
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with the ability to effectively prioritize
  • Strong written and oral communication sills
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work in a fast-paced team environment
